The original bedroom

We begin by tearing out all shelving and delivering a coat of white paint to the thirsty walls.

By the time we’ve finished painting the walls, removing the popcorn ceiling and painting it, assembling the bed and nightstands, and replacing the ceiling fan, the bedroom feels downright livable.

Once the new (beautiful) LVP flooring is in, we decide the duvet is too much (not to mention its wrinkles). We swap it for a clean coverlet, pick up a silver full-length mirror from Target, and … voila! The bedroom is complete.

Bedroom

The last detail in the bedroom is the shoji door situation.

While they’re a nice nod to the building’s origin story (Kailua Village was originally built as a Japanese hotel), they don’t match our decor and are showing their age. We end up hiring a local carpenter to replace the rice paper with wood, and paint the doors white.
