It’s well-known that Kona, Hawaii is home to arguably the best coffee in the world. Kona coffee is grown in the Kona Coffee Belt on the Big Island, and thrives due to the quality of the soil, elevation, and mild climate.
For tourists, it’s a no-brainer that any vacation to the Big Island needs to come with a morning dose of java. However, with so many options, it’s tough to know where one can get the best Kona coffee on the island.
If you’re staying in downtown Kailua Kona and looking for the best coffee shop within walking distance, we’re pleased to present our choice: HiCo!
HiCo is known for using ube in several of its featured menu options, including the wildly popular ube latte. Ube (which means tuber in Tagalog) is a purple yam that originally comes from the Philippines. In addition to the ube latte, we highly recommend the ube sweet cream cold brew.
If you’re not a fan of ube (or simply looking to try something else) and love coconut, I recommend my favorite menu item: the delicious iced haupia latte.
HiCo also offers satisfying breakfast options, including several types of toasts with toppings.
With free WiFi, an overall friendly, aloha vibe, and doors that open at 6am, HiCo is walkable from downtown Kona and a great place to find an outdoor table, work, or chill.
