Best Happy Hour in Kailua-Kona

On The Rocks: 3-5pm Daily

On The Rocks is nearly always hopping. It’s got a laid-back beachy vibe, and you can sit at the bar and look out over the gorgeous Kailua Bay.

In terms of beer, happy hour features mostly lagers (Kona Longboard being my preferred choice; something about drinking a Coors Light in Hawai’i feels sacrilege to me, but you do you!). There are three pupu options, all tasty bar food: $7 sliders, $7 mini nachos, and $5 tacos.

Kai Eats and Drinks: 3-5pm Daily

Kai boasts probably the most extensive tap list, at least on Ali’i. All beers are $2 off during happy hour, but many start more in the $9 range. Kai’s pupus, however, end up being a slightly better deal than On the Rocks.

Island Lava Java: 3:30-5:30pm Daily

My favorite place on Ali’i to watch the sun set.

Because you really can’t go wrong with three shrimp tacos (pictured below, $15 total) and a few $6 icy Longboards to wash them down.
