Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill Kona

Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill is a beloved Kailua-Kona restaurant offering fresh, locally inspired dishes in a warm, open-air setting, perfect for a relaxed yet upscale dining experience.

If you’re staying at our Kailua Village condo and looking for one of the best dining experiences in town, Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill should be at the top of your list. While it’s not directly on the water, the open-air design and warm atmosphere more than make up for it. Plus, it’s the kind of place where you feel equally comfortable dressing up a bit for a special night out or stopping by for a casual meal after a day of exploring.

We recommend getting there right when they open at 4 PM to take full advantage of their happy hour. It’s a great way to try some of their signature drinks and pupus (Hawaiian for appetizers) at a discount. The Mai Tais here are some of the best we’ve had, and the calamari appetizer is a favorite among guests and locals alike. Happy hour runs until 5:30 PM, but trust us—arriving early gets you the best seating and gives you time to soak in the relaxed vibe.

The menu at Jackie Rey’s is where they really shine. It’s clear they take pride in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Their seafood dishes are a highlight—whether it’s the macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi or the ahi poke bowl, you can’t go wrong. They also offer prime steaks cooked to perfection, and if you’re in the mood for something lighter, their salads are creative and full of flavor. One dish we’ve heard people rave about repeatedly is the Kona coffee-crusted ribeye—something you won’t find anywhere else.

What we love most about Jackie Rey’s is how welcoming it feels. The staff is attentive and genuinely friendly, giving you that ohana (family) vibe that the name promises. It’s a place that caters to everyone, whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want a good meal after a long day.

Because it’s such a favorite in town, reservations are highly recommended, especially for dinner. It’s a short drive from the condo, and the open-air setting gives you a great sense of being in Hawaii without the crowds you might find at some of the waterfront spots.

Jackie Rey’s is one of those places that leaves an impression. Guests who’ve stayed with us always come back raving about the food and atmosphere, and we’re sure you’ll feel the same. Let us know what you try—we’re always happy to hear about your experience!
