Tucked back in the plaza on Ali’i Drive, Journey Cafe in downtown Kona offers delicious plant based dishes and a cute and cozy vibe.
I started off with the Blue Moon Magic drink, described on the menu as “blue butterfly peaberry tea with oat milk and a touch of magic.” It arrived out of the kitchen “looking just like a cloud,” joked the friendly staff member.

The menu offers an assortment of plant based dishes: everything from mac ‘n’ cheese to margherita pizza. Many of the entrees feature jackfruit as the star: a vegan superfood that masquerades as a pork or chicken substitute. This visit, I sampled the (gluten free!) feisty taco salad, which did not disappoint.
