While the inspection report suitably prepared for us for our first look at the shower, one look in person sealed the deal: We were looking at an entire gutting.

The ‘before’ shower situation

Though a thorough date with our friend Clorox helped assuage my fears about using it to shower that first week (mind you, I still kept my flip flops on), there was no way this would fly for future renters.

With the help of Erin from Imperial Solutions, we ripped out the tub and tile in one fell swoop.

Next up, the shower pan and the cement board. Once these were set, our friends at P&S Plumbing assisted in roughing in the plumbing for the shower.

For a few reasons (including an impending building repiping), we opted to go with easy to install prefab shower walls that mimicked the same subway tile we have in our condo in New York.

Lastly, to take things up a notch in the style department, we chose and installed some fancy glass shower doors and a black faucet to watch.

Voila — shower complete!
